Certain cameras in FSX have what is known as the momentum effect applied to them. This means that when the aircraft accelerates or decelerates, the camera will move in response to the movement of the plane. If you don’t like how the camera does this, read below to find out how to change it.

Virtual Cockpit Camera

If you want to change the momentum effect in the virtual cockpit camera, which is applied to every aircraft in the game, then open up the cameras.cfg file with a text editor.

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\”User”\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX
Windows Vista/7/8/10: C:\Users\”User”\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX

With the file open, locate the virtual cockpit camera [CameraDefinition.002] and look for “MomentumEffect = Yes”. Changing Yes to No will disable this effect. It may also say True or False instead.

Aircraft Cameras

These cameras are located in the aircraft section of the in-game camera menu. They exist in a different .cfg file, but the procedure for changing them is the same. Locate the aircraft.cfg file the corresponding aircraft, which can be found in the following locations:

DVD Version: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\”Airplanes” or “Rotorcraft”\
Steam Version: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SimObjects\”Airplanes” or “Rotorcraft”\

Scroll down to the camera definitions, and look for any camera that have the line “Category=Aircraft”. This means that it is in the aircraft category in the camera menu. Right below that should be MomentumEffect=TRUE. As showed above, change the TRUE to FALSE, and save the file. You’ll have to do this for each camera individually.
